Board of Directors Bios

Gary Walton (President) is President and sole shareholder of Custom One, Inc., a real estate development company in Gilroy, CA. Gary is past Vice President and former part owner of Overland Enterprises, Inc., past Vice President of the Real Estate Loan Department of San Jose National Bank and former owner of Lizzaran Spanish Restaurant in Gilroy, CA. Gary is the current Chairman of the Gilroy Downtown Business Association. He is a former board member for both the Gilroy Dispatch Editorial Board and the Gilroy Economic Development Corporation and past President of the Downtown Morgan Hill Property Based Improvement District (PBID) and the Morgan Hill Downtown Association. Gary received the 2016 Good Egg Award from the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce and is a past recipient of the Chamber’s Small Business of the Year award. Gary received the Governors’ Historic Preservation Award in 2003 for the relocation and restoration of the Morgan Hill Grammar School.

Richard Perino (Vice President) retired as Director of Vendor Relations from Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) after thirty years with the company. His responsibilities included knowledge of all legal documents necessary to do business with OSH. He brings to MRBA strong skills in managing new projects. Richard was a Gilroy Garlic Festival volunteer for 20 years, a former board member of the Gilroy Presbyterian Church, past President of Gilroy High Boosters Club and a former board member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newark, CA.

Kathleen Chavez (Secretary) is a retired Special Education teacher. She also worked for non-profit agencies Parents Helping Parents, Atypical Infant Motivation (AIM) and Hope Developmental Services advocating for and teaching children with special needs. Kathy’s vision for the Miller Red Barn is a community center that pays tribute to the farming cultures and peoples of the past, supports the farming community of the present and preserves this agricultural heritage for future generations

Maureen Hunter (Secretary of Minutes) is a retired Elementary School teacher. She managed Ledo Gallery, a custom frame shop in Gilroy, CA. Maureen has a degree in Art History and brings to MRBA experience working in art galleries. Maureen is currently on the Board of Directors of the Gilroy Historic Society and served on the Board of Directors of Las Madras Parents Club. She was School Advisor to the Farm Day Committee of the San Benito County Farm Bureau. Maureen’s interests include 18th and 19th century antiques, equestrian activities, gardening, design, needlework and cooking.

Gloria Caliri (Treasurer) is a Bookkeeper working with several private clients including a local bicycle shop. She worked for a CPA firm and was integral in starting a family business with her husband. It was the first television and stereo sales and repair business in Gilroy. They created another business in 1965, Gilroy Cable TV, which was the first cable television business in Gilroy. Gloria volunteered for the Gilroy Garlic Festival for 12 years, working closely with one of the founders of the festival.

Patti Perino (Special Events and Promotions Chairman) is retired Receptionist Assistant to the President of KlinEra Global Services, a clinical research company. She has held several positions in her working life, in which she found success through attention to detail and the drive to problem solve. Patti was an Advertising Sales Representative for 10 years with The Gilroy Dispatch newspaper. Patti’s experience includes retail Store Manager, General Merchandise Manager for an ecommerce retailer. Patti was the Promotion Chairman for the Gilroy Garlic Festival as a volunteer for 8 years.
